Dave Tipton

Dave Tipton is the defensive line coach at Stanford University, a position he assumed in 1989. A 1971 graduate of Stanford, where he was one of the school’s all-time great defensive linemen and a key member of Stanford’s 1971 Rose Bowl team, Tipton has participated in six post-season bowl games as a member of the Cardinals’ coaching staff. Under his tutelage, Tipton has coached several of the finest defensive players in school history, including a number who went on to play in the NFL. Following graduation, he played six seasons in the NFL before embarking on his coaching career. One of the most respected coaches in the game, he began his coaching career in 1977 as the defensive line coach at the United States International University. Before returning to his alma mater, he also held coaching stints at Bonita Vista H.S. (CA), Sweetwater H.S. (CA), Cal State Fullerton, and Oregon State.
