Larry Johnson

Larry Johnson is the defensive line coach at Penn State University, a position he assumed in 1996. During his tenure on the Nittany Lions’ staff, he has coached several All-Americans and numerous NFL draft choices, including Courtney Brown—the first player selected in the 2000 NFL draft. Johnson also has coached five first-team, All-Big Ten performers. His highly regarded coaching accomplishments include a 19-year stint as the head coach at McDonough (MD) High School, where his teams posted a 139-36 ledger, and captured state championships in 1983, ’85, and ’90. Subsequently, he served as head coach at T.C. Williams (VA) High School for two seasons. In college, Johnson was a standout linebacker at Elizabeth City (NC) State University, earning NAIA All-American honors. After graduation, he played one season with the NFL’s Washington Redskins.
