Billy Donovan

Billy Donovan is the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Florida, a position he assumed in 1996. In 2006, he guided the Gators to the school’s first national championship. Under Donovan, the Gators have set a school record with eight straight post-season appearances and eight straight 20-win seasons. Since his arrival at Florida, the Gators have won two Southeastern Conference Championships, while achieving a 124-65 record. Prior to accepting his present position, Donovan served as the head coach at Marshall University for two seasons. In his brief tenure at Marshall, he led the Thundering Herd to an overall mark of 35-20 and a league championship. Before that, Donovan spent five years on Rick Pitino’s staff at Kentucky. A 1982 graduate of Providence where he became the third leading scorer in Friars’ history, Donovan played briefly in the NBA before entering the coaching ranks.
